Q&A with Jennie Kuckertz '13
Q: What did you like about attending USD?
A: Definitely the professors. At no other university will you receive the same amount of attention and support! This was really formative in terms of my USD education.
Q: Which research experiences/ classes did you enjoy the most/ shaped your future career aspirations?
A: At the beginning of college, I knew I wanted to be a psychologist but was not interested in research until I took Research Methods my freshman year. It was pretty cool because I became excited about the research project I proposed for my final in that class, and it is actually very similar to the research I am doing now in grad school! My first research experience was working with Dr. Galvan, who taught us a lot about conducting research and thinking through research questions. I also worked with Dr. McCabe on a SURE grant, which was a fantastic opportunity to learn how to answer my own research questions from the beginning to end of the process.
Q: What are you doing now? What are your future career plans?
A: Currently I am pursuing a PhD from the Joint Doctoral Program in Clinical Psyhology at SDSU/UCSD. I am working in an anxiety disorders lab/clinic with Dr. Nader Amir doing research in the treatment of youth anxiety disorders and OCD. Following graduate school, I hope to continue doing clinical research as well as teaching in a university setting.
