Del Dickson, PhD, JD

Professor, Political Science and International Relations

Del Dickson has taught in the department of Political Science and International Relations since 1987.  He is a former department chair and has served for 29 years as the undergraduate pre-law advisor.  His research focuses on the U.S. Supreme Court, justice in common law countries, lay justice, and the relationship between law and democracy.

His most recent book is The People’s Government: An Introduction to Democracy (Cambridge University Press). His earlier book, The Supreme Court In Conference 1940-1985 (Oxford University Press), earned the national Association of American Publishers award as the best book in Government and Political Science in 2001.  Other work includes, “State Court Defiance And The Limits of Supreme Court Authority, Williams v. Georgia Revisited,” Yale Law Journal (1994), “Give Me Security or Give Me Death,” in Comparative Politics and the War on Terror (2005),  and “The Selection and Appointment of Magistrates in England and Wales,” University of Toledo Law Review (1992).
