Adeyemi Came a Long Way to Play for USD


San Diego Union Tribune -- Each Friday in his Nigerian homeland, Al-Rilwan Adeyemi climbed onto a bus, alone, for a three-hour ride to pick up his younger cousin from boarding school. The two would come home, spend what was left of the weekend together, and Adeyemi would then make the same six-hour round-trip journey on Sunday to deliver the cousin back at school.

It was a lot of responsibility. Particularly since Adeyemi was all of 10 years old at the time.

“It forces you to grow up quicker,” Adeyemi was saying earlier this week. “Kids in Nigeria have to be responsible very, very quickly.”

He has never considered this to be a bad thing, and the people closest to Adeyemi on the USD football team would tend to agree. (Full Story)
