Sociology Professor to receive Teaching Career Award

Professor of Sociology Judith Liu, PhD is the 2010 recipient of the Dean S. Dorn Outstanding Contributions to Teaching Career Award.  This award honors Liu’s contribution and impact on the teaching of sociology.  Each year the Pacific Sociological Association honors the exceptional teaching ability and efforts of a professor who has made an impact on the field of sociology over the course of their career teaching.

During her tenure at USD, Liu has taught a wide variety of courses at USD including theory courses, courses in U.S., Chinese, popular culture, political sociology, community organizing, and preceptorial classes.  She also works with the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) and the McNair Scholar program, working to increase access to education for underrepresented groups.

In addition to the recent Dean S. Dorn Award, Liu has been the recipient of numerous teaching awards including the Sears Teaching Excellence Award, the Lowell P. Davis Award for Faculty Achievement, Graduating Senior Class Distinguished USD Faculty Award, the San Diego Press Club Headliner of the Year for Education, Innovations in Experiential Education Award, Outstanding Preceptor Award, and the Council for the Advancement of Secondary Education (CASE) California Professor of the Year.
