Chemistry Professor Named Principal Investigator on $1 million NSF Grant

Mitch Malachowski, Ph.D., professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry, is the principal investigator on a $999,999 grant for the Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR).  The grant, which is funded by the National Science Foundation, allows Malachowski and his four member team to continue their work on expanding undergraduate research at universities throughout the United States.  Specifically the grant funds workshops for universities interested in developing and implementing an undergraduate research component at their school.  The plans are individually tailored to each university and with the new grant monies, the participating universities will receive follow up visits from Malachowski and his team to track their progress.

Additionally, the new grant monies will focus on creating undergraduate research programs for entire state school systems and other groupings of similar universities throughout the U.S.  This restructuring of the grant will streamline the workshop process to have a greater impact across a wider variety of colleges and universities.  Malachowski will lead this effort, while working closely with staff in the CUR office in Washington, D.C.
