Eric Foster, a California native, gave his debut solo recital thirty years ago in La Paz, Bolivia. He has since lived as a teacher, composer and “gigging” musician in both North and South America. Eric’s childhood experiences include living in Taiwan, Liberia, Brazil, and Bolivia heavily influencing his varied interests in composition and musical performance.
He earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of California at Santa Barbara with an emphasis in composition and a Master of Music Degree from San Diego State University with an emphasis in guitar performance. Mr. Foster presently teaches at the University of San Diego, Vista Academy of Visual and Performing Arts and MiraCosta College in Oceanside.
Scholarly and Creative Work
Some of Eric’s compositions are published by Les Productions d’Oz in Canada. Solo pieces for guitar are compiled on the CD “Paint the Wind”. Both concertos for guitar and orchestra (“A California Concerto” and “Latin Wave Concerto”), were presented repeatedly in San Diego and Tijuana by the USD Orchestra and the North Coast Symphony with Eric as soloist.
Mr. Foster enjoys classroom teaching for all age levels. Many years ago he taught music theory to high school age kids at the “Instituto Eduardo Laredo” in Cochabamba, Bolivia and today teaches general music and guitar for elementary and middle school students in Vista. He has also taught a variety of college level courses including: History of Rock, Music Fundamentals, Music Theory, Class Guitar and Applied lessons. Eric has been the director of the MiraCosta Guitar Orchestra for over fifteen years.
