Professor Azab joined the department in the fall of 2015. He teaches all levels of Arabic language and culture, with an emphasis on using technology in the classroom and working in intense, accelerated learning environments. Professor Azab has a unique perspective gained from years of teaching Arabic to adults in different academic settings. Prior to joining the faculty at USD, he was an assistant professor at the Defense Language Institute (DLI) in Monterey, California where he served as a team leader, acting chair and technology trainer. At the DLI he was awarded the “Coin of Excellence” for his work in curriculum development. Most recently, Professor Azab has been teaching Arabic at Palomar College where he participated in the department’s assessment of student learning. Professor Azab is experienced in teaching for cross cultural competency. He has been active in the development of the Arabic Language and Culture Program at the Navy Special Warfare Command in San Diego (Coronado Base/Navy Seals) since 2011. As the lead instructor there, he conducted training workshops for both instructors and students, and was an official reviewer for the new Naval Special Warfare Arabic curriculum.

Prof. Hazboun joined the department in Fall 2015 to teach Arabic literature in translation. She is also a faculty lecturer at San Diego State University where she teaches Arabic 101 and Arabic Culture.
