Interdisciplinary Curriculum

Supporting innovative curricular projects

The interdisciplinary curriculum element of the Humanities Center is dedicated to the development of mechanisms encouraging and fostering novel cooperation involving the humanities and other disciplines/schools within the University of San Diego. Here, interdisciplinary majors, minors and courses, interdisciplinary seminars, pop-up courses and course enrichment experiences are developed.

Course enrichment

Immersion experiences abound

Course enrichment and immersion experiences enhance student learning. Faculty members who wish to provide their class with an experience that involves active learning, either in the classroom or in the field, may apply for funding to sponsor those activities. For example, faculty may take their class to historical sites in San Diego, lead a group excursion to view classical antiquities at the Getty Villa or see local art initiatives in the Barrio Logan Arts District.

Summer series

1st@USD

Each summer, USD's Humanities Center offers an interdisciplinary team-taught seminar exclusively for incoming first-year students on a topic of current interest. Students who pass receive one unit of course credit, tuition free, to kick off their academic journey at USD.
