Brad Melekian has been a member of the USD English Department since 2008. As an adjunct professor of English, Melekian teaches courses in introductory composition and literature and creative writing. A working writer as well as a teacher, Melekian's fiction, non-fiction and screenwriting work appears in many prominent national and international publications.

Melekian's award-winning fiction and non-fiction appear frequently in The New York Times, McSweeney's, Outside Magazine, Men's Journal, ESPN, Playboy, and The Surfer's Journal, among others. For the past eight years, he's served on staff at Surfer Magazine, most recently as senior editor, and for the past three years he's written a biweekly column in the San Diego Union Tribune.
His fiction focuses on man's interaction with nature and the modern world, most recently with his collection of short fiction, Following Sea: California Stories. Melekian is currently working on a documentary film project regarding the femicides in Juarez, Mexico.
Melekian's courses focus on what the acts of both reading and writing can teach us about our interaction with the world as we experience it. In both his creative writing and composition and literature courses, Melekian pays particular attention to the works of contemporary authors of both fiction and creative non-fiction.
