According to its Constitution, the Academic Assembly “help[s] determine and carry out the academic objectives of the College of Arts and Sciences, promote[s] intellectual excellence within the framework of the Catholic tradition, promote[s] the interests of the College of Arts and Sciences, and assist[s] in developing the relationship between the College of Arts and Sciences and the rest of the University.

Additionally, and in accordance with the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) “Statement on the Government of Colleges and Universities” (1967): the Academic Assembly “has primary responsibility for such fundamental areas as curriculum, subject matter and methods of instruction, research, faculty status, and those aspects of student life which relate to the educational process."
