ASG Response to ICE Declaration

ASG Response to ICE Declaration

To the Torero Campus Community,

The Associated Student Government would like to declare our steadfast commitment to supporting international students at the University of San Diego. With all the uncertainty and unrest now, it seemed impossible for our societal circumstances to become even more complicated. However, earlier this week, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) stated that “students attending schools operating entirely online may not take a full online course load and remain in the United States.”

Let me make this clear; this ruling is as egregious as it is shocking. The University of San Diego is not the same without its international community. These students have worked extremely hard and are some of the brightest young minds in the world.  International students deserve to remain within the United States as they continue to pursue their degrees.

To address this new issue, representatives from the Associated Student Government will continue to meet with administrators to see how we can assist in protecting the international student population at USD. Additionally, the ASG executive board will convene to discuss avenues in which we can advocate for our foreign-born students.

Finally, to our international students, I know this ruling has probably caused immense stress and pain. During this challenging time, we want our international Toreros to know that we have your back. If there is any way you think that ASG can assist during this time, please let us know at
