First Wave of USD Class of 2020 Celebrated at Mid-Year Graduates' Mass

The first portion of University of San Diego’s class of 2020 attended the annual December Mid-Year Graduates Mass inside a packed Founders Chapel on Friday afternoon.

Mostly undergraduate students, including a number of international students, who’ve completed their academic requirements were partaking in this festive Mass. While their graduation becomes official after final exams are taken this week and grades are posted in early January, many graduates were joined by family and friends for this important day. In addition to the normal Mass service, the event included congratulatory comments from Monsignor Daniel J. Dillabough and USD President James T. Harris, as well as Senior Alumni Director Charles Bass welcoming the newest members of the more than 70,000 Torero alumni to this USD family.

“You’re a Torero for Life,” Bass said.

Following Mass, a reception was held in the Founders Hall foyer, in the hall's courtyard and spilled out onto the Paseo de Colachis area outside Founders Hall. Furthermore, many graduates had their picture taken in full regalia inside the French Parlor.

Students from all three undergraduate schools and a smattering of students in graduate programs had much to be thankful for at Friday’s event as many expressed feelings of joy for their academic accomplishment. It is hoped that many of the graduates on hand Friday will return to campus to walk in the May Commencement exercises at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.

The 2020 USD Commencement dates are: School of Law, Saturday, May 16, 9 a.m.; Graduate Schools I (School of Leadership and Education Sciences and Professional and Continuing Education’s MS CSOL and MS LEPSL), Sunday, May 17, 10 a.m.; Graduate Schools II (School of Business, College of Arts and Sciences, Hahn School of Nursing and Health Science, Joan B.
