Each year, the Burnham-Moores Center for Real Estate offers scholarships to promising graduate and undergraduate real estate students.

Beyond these opportunities, there are plenty of additional real estate scholarships offered by organizations nationwide. Just note, those require a separate application process and have varying deadlines and eligibility requirements.

Apartment Guide Scholarship (Available January 2021)

Award: $2,500

Submit a 500-600 word essay answering the question “What is your responsibility towards ending homelessness?” We’re asking you to spend some time thinking and writing about your responsibility towards ending or improving homelessness. This could be homelessness in your immediate community or the problem of homelessness in general. Think about what causes the problem of homelessness. Do you even think it is a problem we should solve? Does every individual need to have a house or is it ok that some may prefer to live differently? What is the difference between being a vagabond and being homeless? What can you do to help those in our society who would like to have a home but don’t have one?

Submit a 500-600 word essay answering the question “What is your responsibility towards ending homelessness?”

Appraisal Institute AIERF Graduate Scholarship (Available Spring Semester)

Award: $2,000

Awarded on the basis of academic excellence, this scholarship helps finance the educational endeavors of graduate students concentrating in real estate appraisal, land economics, real estate or allied fields

Appraisal Institute AIERF Minorities and Women Education Scholarship (Available Spring Semester)

Award: $1,000

Minorities and women students pursuing academic degrees in real estate appraisal or related fields.

Appraisal Institute AIERF Undergraduate Scholarship (Available Spring Semester)

Award: $1,000

Awarded on the basis of academic excellence, this scholarship helps finance the educational endeavors of undergraduate students concentrating in real estate appraisal, land economics, real estate or allied fields.

BIA Cares Scholarship (Available Spring Semester)

Award: $1,000 - $5,000

BIA CARES, the charitable foundation of the Building Industry Association of San Diego, awards $15,000 annually to high school and college students who are seeking a career in the building industry.

Burnham Foundation Scholarship (AVAILABLE NOW!)

Award: Two scholarships at $5,000 each.
Application Deadline: September 29, 2020

The Burnham Foundation scholarship was established to award an outstanding undergraduate school of business or MSRE graduate student interested in real estate or real estate finance. The award, named after one of the founding members of the Burnham-Moores Center for Real Estate culminates in the Spring with an awards breakfast including students from San Diego State University, Cal State San Marcos and the University of San Diego.

California Association of Realtors Scholarship (Available Spring 2021)

Award: $2,000 - $4,000

The C.A.R. Scholarship Foundation awards scholarships to students enrolled at a California College or University pursuing a degree to support a career in real estate transactional activity such as Real Estate Brokerage, Real Estate Finance, Real Estate Management, Real Estate Development, Real Estate Appraisal, Real Estate Planning, Real Estate Law, Commercial Real Estate, and other real estate professions.

California Homebuilding Foundation / Ernest W. Hahn Scholarship Endowment (AVAILABLE NOW!)

Award: $2,500

The California Homebuilding Foundation scholarship program was founded on the belief that any motivated individual in need should have the opportunity to further his or her education. The CHF Ernest Hahn scholarship is awarded annually to an undergraduate or MSRE graduate student pursuing their career in building or construction.

California Homebuilding Foundation / Harry Summers Scholarship Endowment (AVAILABLE NOW!)

The California Homebuilding Foundation scholarship program was founded on the belief that any motivated individual in need should have the opportunity to further his or her education. The CHF Harry Summers scholarship is awarded annually to an undergraduate or MSRE graduate student pursuing their career in building or construction.

California Homebuilding Foundation Hall of Fame Scholarship (Late Spring 2020)

Award: $10,000 - $15,000
Application Deadline: June 1, 2020

The California Homebuilding Foundation Hall of Fame scholarship was established by the CHF and industry professionals that have enriched the homebuilding industry through innovation and philanthropy. The scholarship is offerred to students throughout the entire U.S. and winners are invited to accept the award at the annual CHF Hall of Fame Gala. Calkain Real Estate Scholarship (Spring 2021)

Award: $1,000

In 2018, Calkain introduced a $1,000 USD scholarship to encourage a career path in commercial real estate.  Each year, the scholarship will be awarded to one full-time undergraduate or graduate student majoring in real estate or a related field.  Selection is based on academic excellence and understanding of the field; preference is given to students with an interest in a career path working within the single tenant net lease market.  The award must be used within 12 months after it is granted.  

CREW Network Foundation National Scholarship

Award: $5,000

The CREW Network Foundation scholarship program supports future female leaders as they pursue university-level education that will lead to careers in commercial real estate. Help us plant the seeds of change in the commercial real estate industry.

Danielle M. Priore Women in Real Estate Scholarship (AVAILABLE NOW!)

Award: $1,000
Application Deadline: September 29, 2020

The Danielle M. Priore Scholarship was established by young alumni, Danielle Priore (\\\\\\\'17). Danielle was passionately involved in the real estate program while attending the University of San Diego and established this scholarship to support female undergraduate students pursuing their careers in real estate.

DBIA Western Pacific Region (Available Spring Semester)

Award: Twelve - $4,000 Scholarships

DBIA Western Pacific Region is offering 12 scholarships ($4,000 each) to qualified students pursuing a design or construction related degree at selected universities in the western US. Eligible students are invited to download the application and submit by April 3, 2019. The Selection Committee will award scholarships to the most qualified students. Recipients will be notified on April 23, 2019. Winners will be recognized at DBIA’s Annual Award Banquet on May 16, 2019 in Napa.

Federal Realty Undergraduate Diversity Scholarship (Available Spring 2021)

Award: $5,000

Fieldstone Foundation Scholarship (AVAILABLE NOW!)

Fieldstone Communities, Inc. established the Fieldstone Foundation Scholarship in 2001 to support undergraduate students at the USD school of business who are passionate about and pursuing a career in real estate or real estate finance.

Hinckley Family Scholarship (AVAILABLE NOW!)

Award: Two scholarships available at $5,000 each

The Hinckley Family Scholarship was established by one of the BMC\\\'s long time supporters, Stephen H. Hinckley in 2015. As a 1976 alum, Mr. Hinckley has been an active member in the Burnham-Moores Center for Real Estate\\\'s (BMC) Real Estate Committee and Policy Advisory Board for over 15 years and remains actively involved in supporting the mission of the BMC.

ICSC Charles Grossman Graduate Scholarship (Available Spring 2021)

ICSC Edward J. DeBartolo, Sr. Graduate Scholarship (Available Spring 2021)

ICSC Graduate Diversity Scholarship (Available Spring 2021)

Award: $5,000

This graduate level scholarship is designed to increase the ethnic diversity within the community of highly skilled retail real estate professionals.

ICSC PGIM Real Estate Scholarship & Internship in Memory of Bernard Winograd (Available Spring 2021)

Award: $5,000, plus eligible for a paid summer 2020 internship plus sign-on bonus at PGIM Real Estate in either Madison, NJ, Atlanta, GA, or San Francisco, CA (see job description below)

PGIM Real Estate is seeking highly motivated sophomore students who are currently enrolled in full-time undergraduate programs to join the Sophomore Training Program (STP), a 10-week program that offers a variety of individual and group learning opportunities. The position offers an outstanding opportunity to learn and develop a broad range of financial, credit, real estate underwriting, analytical, marketing, business communication and presentation skills. As a STP intern, you will engage in challenging projects that provide hands-on experience to develop your problem-solving and decision-making skills. In this role you will interact professionally with senior management, joint venture partners, brokers, originators, borrowers and investors. And, you will provide analytical support on a wide variety of assignments.

Award: $5,000 and a paid internship at WEITZMAN

Weitzman, a regional commercial retail real estate company based in Dallas, TX, is looking for students with a real estate academic focus who have an interest in interfacing with and servicing retailers, landlords and investors. Our entrepreneurial mindset is based on market knowledge, a sense of urgency and professional selling skills.

IREM Young Professionals Scholarship (Available Spring Semester)

Award: $600

James Previti Family Foundation Scholarship (AVAILABLE NOW!)

Award: $5,000 - $10,000 per award.

The James Previti Family Foundation Scholarship Fund was established to ensure that every student that shows the passion for pursuing a career in real estate gets the support they need to be successful in their endeavors. This scholarship is available to both undergraduate business students pursuing a career in real estate, as well as MSRE students.

Award: $3,000

Family and friends of Jim Gianulis created the James T. Gianulis Memorial Scholarship Fund to honor his memory and the values and relationships that Jim held dear and treasured in others. Jim Gianulis was an executive whose personal and professional integrity and values were demonstrated at all times and in all situations and it is only fitting that recipients embody the same personality traits.

Khalid Mohammed Memorial Scholarship (AVAILABLE NOW!)

Award: $4,000

The Khalid Mohammed Memorial Scholarship was established by a young alum from the Master of Science in Real Estate program, Michelle Muniz (\\\'16). Michelle is passionate about assisting deserving and qualified female students in achieving their MSRE degree from the University of San Diego. Michelle recognizes the value of her college education and experiences to the advancement and quality of her professional life and personal development, and she is eager to afford other female students the same opportunity to prepare personally and professionally to become responsible, contributing, engaged citizens through their chosen fields of study.   

Marasco Family Scholarship (AVAILABLE NOW!)

Award: Two scholarships available at $1,500 each.

The Marasco Family Endowed Scholarship Fund was established in 2005 by Sam and Anne Marasco in an effort to support juniors, seniors or MSRE graduate students who demonstrate an aptitude and a passion for the real estate business. 

Mark J. Riedy Endowed Legacy Scholarship (AVAILABLE NOW!)

Award: Up to three scholarships available at $5,000 each.

As the founder of the USD Real Estate Program and the Burnham-Moores Center for Real Estate, Dr. Mark Riedy served as the Executive Director of the BMC, but also brought a wealth of practical experience to his academic role. He developed an extensive range of academic and industry courses, seminars and lecture series in an effort to continually support the education of real estate students and real estate professionals in the local community and beyond.

My Perfect Workplace Scholarship

Award: $1,000

Myperfectworkplace provides a sleek and functional online forum for landlords and tenants interested in leasing commercial real estate. Established in Sherman Oaks, CA, My Perfect Workplace quickly expanded to cover greater Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland, Oregon, as well as Seattle, Washington.

Application Requirements: Our first $1,000 scholarship is one way we are giving back to the communities that have played a vital role in our success. It is available to any full time student, currently enrolled or about to enroll in a four year U.S. college or university or those individuals who have already obtained a BA/ BS from a U.S. college or university and are presently enrolled in any U.S. college or university Master\'s program or continuing education real estate school.

NAIOP / Mickey Carhart Memorial Scholarship (AVAILABLE NOW!)

Award: Two scholarships available at $4,500 each

In conjunction with the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties, the Carhart Family estatblished the NAIOP / Mickey Carhart Memorial Scholarship Fund to support undergraduate students in the School of Business at USD and MSRE graduate student pursuing their careers in commercial real estate in San Diego County.

NAIOP Diversity CRE Scholarship (Coming Soon)

Award: NAIOP is committed to the next generation of CRE leadership and increasing diversity in commercial real estate. We are proud to continue our scholarship program for students pursuing a degree which will lead to a career in the commercial real estate industry. Preference will be given to students who have been traditionally under-represented in the commercial real estate field. $2,500 - $5,000 (4) $5,000 scholarships will be awarded to qualified graduate student applicants and payable directly to the awardee’s university.

NAIOP University Challenge Scholarship (Spring 2021)

Award: Three - $3,000 scholarships

The National Association of Industrial and Office Properties is pleased to provide funding for undergraduate students in the School of Business at USD pursuing their careers in commercial real estate in San Diego County. The funds for this scholarship are raised through the NAIOP University Challenge.

Pension Real Estate Association (PREA) Scholarship (Available Spring Semester)

Award: Multiple scholarships available at $2,000 each. 

The Pension Real Estate Association awards scholarships on an annual basis to promising students studying real estate at the undergraduate and graduate levels. These scholarships are awarded through our own scholarship program and financial need will be considered in determining the amount of each award. Potential recipients who demonstrate no need will be eligible to receive the minimum award. PREA also partners with the Robert A. Toigo Foundation to grant a PREA/Toigo scholarship which is awarded to minority and women students.

Richard Froese Memorial Scholarship (AVAILABLE NOW!)

Award: Two scholarships at $2,500 each.

As a further demonstration of their commitment to assisting the University of San Diego to keep its oustanding academic quality and total student experience accessible to worthy undergraduate and MSRE graduate students, the Richard \\\"Rick\\\" Froese Memorial Scholarship Fund was established by industry associates, friends and family members in honor of Rick Froese who loved learning new things, teaching others and mentoring young people.

Risk Management Association Scholarship

Award: $2,000 - $5,000

Students in an undergraduate program who are interested in working in the banking industry after graduation may apply for an RMA Foundation scholarship. The Risk Management Association Foundation offers scholarships to students in an undergraduate program who are interested in working in the banking industry after graduation. The RMA Foundation is awarding over $200,000 in renewable scholarships ranging from $2,000 to $5,000. The scholarships can be renewed up to two additional years, provided each student fulfills the renewal requirements and maintains their free student membership with RMA.  As a not-for-profit, member-driven professional association, RMA promotes a community of like-minded banking professionals who share ideas and experiences to advance the use of sound risk management principles in the financial services industry.

SIOR David T. Houston Jr., Memorial Fund

Award: $2,500

Established in 2010, the David T. Houston Jr., SIOR Memorial Fund has instituted an educational scholarship program intended to encourage and promote education for outstanding and deserving individuals within the commercial real estate industry. A $2500 scholarship will be awarded to an active, qualified commercial real estate professional with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in the United States or Canada to obtain continuing education to advance his/her knowledge and career in the field of commercial real estate.

SIOR Mildred C. Hanson Memorial Fund Scholarship

Award: $4,000

The Mildred C. (Millie) Hanson, SIOR Memorial Fund, which was established to honor and support women in commercial real estate, will grant a $4,000 scholarship to an outstanding junior or senior undergraduate female student enrolled in an accredited real estate program at a college or university in the United States or Canada.

The Mildred C. Hanson, SIOR Memorial Fund, established in 2008, has generously instituted an educational scholarship program intended to encourage and assist qualified female students in obtaining an education that will lead them into productive careers in the commercial real estate industry.

The SIOR San Diego Chapter Scholarship was established by the San Diego Chapter of the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors to support undergraduate and MSRE graduate students at the University of San Diego pursuing a career in commercial real estate in San Diego County.

Stephen R. Dows Real Estate Foundation Scholarship (AVAILABLE NOW!)

Award: Two scholarships available at $4,500 each

The Stephen R. Dows Real Estate Foundation Scholarship was established in conjunction with the San Diego Foundation to support undergraduate students within the School of Business at USD with a high academic performance in the classroom.

The Kay-Grant Group Scholarship (AVAILABLE NOW!)

Award: $1,000
Application Deadline: November 30, 2020

The Kay-Grant Group is a real estate agent group located in Scottdale, AZ committed to bettering all generations through education. For this reason, we issue a semi-annual scholarship to assist those interested in real estate and technology with obtaining a formal education. The winning applicant will receive a $1,000 scholarship to use towards higher education. More than one winner may be chosen. This is not a needs-based scholarship. Residing in Scottsdale, AZ or Arizona, in general, is not a requirement.

The W. Scott McIntyre Real Estate Scholarship (AVAILABLE NOW!)

Award: $2,500 - $5,000

The W. Scott McIntyre Real Estate Scholarship was established to honor W. Scott McIntyre, a USD alum who graduated in 1994 from the School of Business with an emphasis on Real Estate and Finance. Due to his untimely passing, Scott did not have the opportunity to fully develop his career in real estate but his passion for responsible real estate development is not forgotten and his legacy lives on by awarding this scholarship to a student that shares his passion.

The USD Real Estate Alumni Association Scholarship was established by the Real Estate Alumni Association (REAA) to support MSRE students at the University of San Diego. The REAA is continually working with USD students and alumni to stress the importance of staying connected to your classmates and your alma mater beyond graduation.
