The Summer Institute on Innovation and Entrepreneurship is a week-long program on global competitiveness, emphasizing innovation and entrepreneurship. Hosted by the Ahlers Center for International Business at the University of San Diego (USD), graduate students around the world will participate in an international learning opportunity featuring USD professors and experts in their field.

2019 Summer Institute: FAQ

Institute Format
This Summer Institute is a one-week program held on the University of San Diego campus from August 19-23, 2019. The tentative schedule is from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm with a lunch break each day. Activities will include classroom seminars, a company visit and receptions. 
We will provide all instructional materials in a flash drive. Pre-reading material may be shared via Dropbox prior to the program start date. You will need a laptop or tablet with a USB drive to access the program materials on the flash drive. Internet access will be available at USD.
Participants will receive a certificate of completion on the last day of the program. USD does not provide academic credit for the Summer Institute.

Who should apply
The Summer Institute on Innovation and Entrepreneurship is designed for graduate students currently enrolled in an institution of higher education. We may ask for verification of enrollment (i.e., contact information of your graduate advisor, transcript) during the application process.
Participants will receive a certificate for completing this educational program.

Can I receive academic credit from USD
Please note that participants will not be enrolled as students at USD nor will any academic credit from USD be granted for participating in the Summer Institute. The goal of this program is to enhance cross-cultural understanding and academic knowledge in the area of entrepreneurship and innovation.

Please note that USD does not issue student visas for this program.
Registration Information
Interest Form
The first step is to complete the online interest form. Upon review of your interest, we will invite you to register for the program by email. We have a rolling application and acceptance policy. You must complete the interest form to receive the registration link by email.
Registration and Payment
Should you be invited to participate in the program, full program payment of US$500* will be due by July 31, 2019.  Registration link and payment information will be sent upon review of your interest form.
*Institutions that send five (5) or more students may qualify for a discount. Please send an email to for more details.
Acceptance Notification
We have a rolling acceptance policy and will review interest forms until the registration deadline. The email with the registration and payment link will be sent as the interest forms are received and reviewed. In the email, you will also receive additional program and logistical information for the program.
Last Date to Cancel for 50% Refund
Should you need to cancel, a 50% refund will be available if cancellation is received in writing by August 9, 2019. Cancellations made past this date will not qualify for a refund.
Program Fee
The cost for the Institute is US$500, which includes:

  • Seminar instruction and program materials
  • Welcome reception
  • Company visit
  • Transportation to/from company visit
  • Closing dinner
  • Light breakfast and lunch
  • Certificate of completion
  • Parking on USD campus 
The fee does NOT cover:
  • Airfare
  • Housing
  • Transportation to/from USD campus
  • Meals other than indicated
  • Additional items not indicated above
