Move Forward

Faculty-led consulting projects for global reach

Is your business eager to identify new markets? Optimize your supply chain? Reduce costs? The Move Forward program is an opportunity to partner with a Knauss School of Business at the University of San Diego faculty member to solve a current organizational challenge for your business.

Our professors are experts in the areas of international market research, trade advisory, supply chain management, economic analysis and business analytics. Instead of enlisting the services of a costly third-party consulting firm, participate in the Move Forward program at no cost and leverage the expertise of our professors to solve pressing business challenges and gain new insights — including increasing revenue, reducing costs, creating more efficient processes, collecting better data and more.

Last year, the Ahlers Center launched the Move Forward Program, selecting the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce as the first recipient/client of the program. The Chamber requested that a 2014 cross-border workforce report be updated and expanded with new data. A team of faculty from across University of San Diego's campus was formed to tackle this multi-dimensional report. International relations professor, Dr. David Shirk, from the College of Arts and Science, economist, Dr. Alan Gin, from the Knauss School of Business, and Ms. Melissa Floca from the Kroc School of Peace and Justice collaborated with economics faculty member, Dr. Pedro Paulo Orraca Romano, from the COLEF in Tijuana to produce the Jobs without Borders Report focusing on the CaliBaja Regional Economy. Graduate students from both USD and the COLEF also contributed to the report. The project provided a service to one of the region's largest civic and economic advancement organizations while engaging top-tier faculty and graduate business students with relevant, industry-focused work. The completed report has been largely distributed to state and federal lawmakers to inform policies promoting inclusive, regional economic growth.
