Director of Changemaking Initiatives

Reijer Den Dulk

Hey Toreros!

My name is Reijer den Dulk and I am the Director of Changemaking Initiatives for the 2018-2019 academic year. I am a second year student here at USD and am studying Industrial and Systems Engineering. I have previously held the positions of residential Senator and Chair of Changemaking Initiatives in Associated Student Senate and I look forward to remaining active on campus this year! I am strongly involved in the Changemaker Hub on campus but also enjoy my downtime in a coffee shop with a nice book.

As the Director of Changemaking Initiatives, I represent the Changemaker Hub and all of the Changemaker Organizations in Associated Students. This is a fairly new position as USD has only just celebrated 5 years of being a Changemaker Campus and was recently re-designated for another 5 years. The University of San Diego is designated as a “Changemaker Campus” by the Ashoka U Organization which recognizes USD as one of only 50 Colleges and Universities around the world for their values in social innovation. To be designated, USD went through an intensive 2 year process and also submits an annual report to the Ashoka U Organization of what recourse and events are available on our campus.

As a result of our designation and core values in social innovation, the Changemaker Hub was established to offer a central location for students to meet and learn all about social innovation at USD.

The Changemaker Hub offers great opportunities for students to get involved and learn about social innovation on our campus. Students can get involved through the Changemaker Student Committee, the Social Change Corps, or one of our many Changemaker designated Organizations. As Chair of Changemaking Initiatives, it is my job to represent the many students involved in these opportunities during Senate meetings. I act as a liaison between Senate and the Hub.

Previously, I created a Changemaker Student Organization Core that is intended to encourage collaboration between Changemaker Orgs on campus and to better promote our changemaking identity to all students. The Core is comprised of student leaders and representatives from a variety of organizations, and I am excited for what this semester has in store for the Core!

This year, I hope to foster stronger relationships between the Changemaker Hub and different outlets on campus through Student Organizations, collaboration with different campus programs, and more student driven activities and initiatives. I have many ideas to start the year off strong but I hope to hear from students on any input or thoughts that you may have! I’m thankful for the opportunity to represent the students of USD and I would love to get connected if you have any questions or ideas!

Sincerely yours,

Reijer den Dulk
