New Minor in Technologies and Society in the USD College of Arts and Sciences

From artificial intelligence to data science, emerging technologies are reshaping the way we live, work and connect—and raising urgent questions about ethics and responsibility. A new interdisciplinary minor in Technologies and Society, launching this fall semester at the University of San Diego, invites students to critically examine these issues through a broad, cross-campus lens.
Open to all undergraduate students, the minor explores how technologies both influence and are influenced by social, political and ethical forces. Students will study the responsibilities of developers, users and regulators while building fluency in evaluating technological benefits, risks and broader societal impacts.
The program draws from faculty across the College of Arts and Sciences, the Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering and the Knauss School of Business. It prepares students for a wide range of careers, including in business, engineering, law, computer science, ethics, media and public policy.
