Newly Admitted International Students

Students Under a Visa Type Other than the F or J Visa

If you are planning to attend the University of San Diego under a visa other than the F or J visa, you are required to submit your visa documentation before you can register for classes. Please remember that students whose visa statuses allow for “incidental study” (for example, the H visa, L visa, etc.) may enroll in eligible graduate programs at part-time status only (no more than 8 units per semester).

Submitting Your Required Visa Documentation

Once you have successfully created your student email, you will be granted access to the University's iTorero portal. You must submit your visa documentation via the six e-forms listed under the Step 1 tab of iTorero:

1. Passport Information

You will upload a color scan of your passport and confirm your citizenship information.

2. Verification of Immigration Status

You will provide information on your current immigration status. When asked about your visa type, you must select the option, “I have another type of visa and WILL NOT apply for an F-1 student visa.” You will be required to upload a copy of your visa stamp and your most recent I-94.

Students whose visa status allows for “incidental study” are also required to upload a letter of permission from their employer or primary visa sponsor indicating the employer’s/sponsor’s consent for the student to enroll in part-time studies at the University. The letter from your employer/sponsor must include:

  • The student’s current status with the company (ie, job title, professional standing)
  • Confirmation of the type of work visa the student holds
  • Confirmation of the expiration date on the student’s work visa
  • A clear statement from the employer/sponsor naming the program that the student will be enrolling in, and that the student has the employer’s/sponsor’s consent to enroll at the University of San Diego part-time. This statement must include the start date of classes for the student’s first semester.

3. Confirm Mailing Address

You will confirm that you do not plan to study under the F-1 visa.

4. SEVIS Transfer In Request

Please skip this form; this form is for students studying under the F visa only.

5. Proof of Funding

You will confirm that you do not plan to study under the F-1 visa.

Students planning to study under a visa other than the F or J visa are not required to prove their financial means to pursue their studies, however it is recommended that you review the estimated cost of attendance for your program so that you know what to expect financially for the first year of your studies. Please keep in mind that the numbers shown are estimates only.

6. Orientation Information

You will review the orientation information for your first semester and acknowledge that you are aware of it by electronic signature.

Completing Your Documentation Requirements

The Office of Graduate Admissions will notify you once you have successfully submitted the relevant e-forms under the Step 1 tab in iTorero and met your visa documentation requirements. At that time, you may then register for your classes.
