Sexual Assault Awareness Week

2009 Events

Campus Connections Community Awareness

Thursday April 16th, 7-9 PM; Salomon Hall

Join Campus Connections for a fun community event designed to reach out and educate people about sexual assault.  Gaming of all kinds will be happening.  Supplies will be available to create t-shirts for the Clothesline Project being displayed throughout the week.  Food & drinks provided.

University Center Lawn Area

Check out this powerful display which bears witness to violence against women.  Community members are invited to express their own emotions and experiences by decorating a shirt.  Materials are available in the Women’s Center, UC 116.  

Train the Trainer Workshops with Mike Domitrz

Faculty/ Staff Session - Monday April 20th

Student Leader Session - Monday April 20th

5:00pm; UC 107

Come learn how to facilitate thought-provoking conversations on sensitive issues with students, especially sexual assault.  Trainees will learn how to take a simple approach to tough questions from students -- including how to discuss "both sides" of students' concerns.  Attendees will be challenged as to "how far" you should go to intervene in the day-to-day situations that can occur.  In addition, you will learn the keys to effective student programming.

Student leaders are invited to eat dinner with our keynote speaker and talk with his work around sexual assault prevention. 

Keynote Address

8:00-9:00 PM, Manchester Conference Center

Join speaker, Mike Domitrz for an interesting program with a touch of humor that teaches you how to ask for what you want from a partner – without having to play any of the games.

Take Back the Night March & Vigil

Thursday April 23rd; 7:30 pm

Join us as we proclaim that all human beings have the right to be free from violence, the right to be heard, and the right to reclaim those rights if they are violated, the right to Take Back the Night!

RAD Self Defense Workshop

Friday April 24; 3:30 - 7:30pm

Saturday April 25; 10:00am - 2:00pm

Sunday April 26; 10:00am - 2:00pm

The Women's Center is invites community members to participate in a three day self defense class.  Participants are required to participate in all three sessions.  Space is limited so if you are interested in signing up, do so promptly by emailing elizabethsmutz@gmail.com.

Annually, the Women’s Center recognizes outstanding women in our campus community. Members of the university nominate female students, faculty and staff who have had a profound impact on the USD community, through their work and their connection with others.   Join us in congratulating our 2008 recipients!

Women's Center Serving the Community!

The Women's Center is working to provide more service opportunities for our students, particularly around areas that affect women directly.  We will be providing volunteer opportunities for students to help with Women's Center events, and connect with the surrounding community.  If you have ideas or want to get more involved in serving the needs of women, please let us know!  Stop by the center in UC116 or email us at womenscenter@sandiego.edu.

The Empower Leadership Retreat presents female freshman, sophomore and junior student leaders with an opportunity to grow through a deeper understanding of self, their personal story, and how that story impacts the community around them.  This unique retreat strives to foster an environment where participants feel empowered to explore their personal and shared stories as women at the University of San Diego.
