Elia Aguirre

Staff, Safety & Wellness Circle

Elia is a first year undergraduate student. She is originally from Las Vegas, Nevada, but she considers San Diego her second home having lived here half her life. She plans to major in Political Science and continue on to law school after having received her Bachelor’s degree. She is currently a member of the Safety & Wellness Circle at the Center. She joined the Women’s Center to further her education on the feminist movement and help create a conversation about feminist issues at USD. To Elia, the basic purpose of feminism is to create social, political, and economic equality between the sexes; however, feminism also serves to breakdown gender roles and harmful stereotypes in society, promote healthy, respectful relationships with oneself and others, dismantle systematic sexism and misogyny, and create a safe, inclusive, and equitable environment for people of different age, gender expression, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion, and socioeconomic class.
