Thursday, October 9, 2008 Join us for the third of four "Conversations with a Woman PaeceMaker." Each fall the Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace & Justice's Women PeaceMakers Program invites four women from around the world working for human rights and peacemaking in their home countries to come to San Diego to document and share their unique peacemaking stories. |

Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice Free "For me, Jean Valentine's poems, like dam walls, seem to have been shaped by the enormous, unseen pressure of what lies behind them.” —Lynn Emanuel Jean Valentine is the author of Door in the Mountain: New and Collected Poems 1965–2003 for which she won the 2004 National Book Award for Poetry. She is the current state poet of New York (2008–2010).Her tenth and most recent book of poetry is Little Boat (Wesleyan, 2007).She won the Yale Younger Poets Award for her first book, Dream Barker, in 1965. Valentine has received a Guggenheim Fellowship awards from the NEA, and the Morton Dauwen Zabel Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. She has taught at Sarah Lawrence College, the Graduate Writing Program of New York University, Columbia University, and the 92nd Street Y in Manhattan, among many other places. http://www.croppercenter.com |
