INSTRUCTIONAL¹ FACULTY BY EMPLOYMENT STATUS
The IPEDS Staff Survey reports all employees by full- and part-time status only.  At USD, status of
instructional faculty is further differentiated as shown in the table below.
Full-time Faculty
   • Tenured and tenure track:  Faculty on the tenure track or who have been awarded tenure.
   • Visiting and temporary:  Faculty in nontenurable positions hired for specific expertise or as
      temporary replacements for vacant positions.
Part-time Faculty
   • Phased Retirement:  Tenured faculty on reduced-time contracts leading to retirement within 3-7 years.
   • Annual Contract:  Faculty in non-tenurable positions hired for the academic year.
   • Term Contract:  Faculty hired to teach 1-2 courses for the term.
