Jean Ramirez (Montoya)

Professor Jean Montoya joined the USD faculty in 1990. She was
an associate with Irell & Manella in Los Angeles and a deputy
public defender with the Los Angeles County Public Defender’s
Office before joining the faculty. She teaches criminal law, criminal
clinic, evidence and trial advocacy. Her primary research
interest is child witness law and policy. She is on the editorial
board of Psychology, Public Policy and Law, a peer-reviewed journal
of the American Psychological Association. She is on the
executive committee of the Evidence Section of the American
Association of Law Schools. Montoya is on the board
of directors of Appellate Defenders, Inc., and Federal Defenders,
Inc., of San Diego. She recently completed a textbook titled,
Criminal Litigation in Action (with Professor Laura Berend)
(National Institute for Trial Advocacy).
