Duane Horning

Adjunct Professor of Law

Professor Horning is a former commercial real estate broker and developer. He has secured land use entitlements and financing, supervised architectural design and construction, negotiated commercial leases, and brokered sales of offices and other commercial properties.

Previously, Horning worked for the Port of San Diego Property Department where he handled lease matters for industrial and commercial waterfront properties around San Diego Bay, including at San Diego International Airport, Lindbergh Field. He served as acting airport manager at Lindbergh Field during renovation and expansion of terminal and airfield facilities.

Horning is now in private law practice at California Business Law Group, PC, which he founded in 2002. He previously practiced at DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary in the litigation and real estate departments. He has litigated in state and federal courts throughout California and in private arbitrations, and successfully argued before the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

Horning earned his Bachelor of Science in Finance from Arizona State University in 1981. He graduated magna cum laude from the University of San Diego School of law in 1994. He was a member of the San Diego Law Review and Order of the Coif. He currently is co-chair of the San Diego County Bar Real Property Section, and vice-chair of the Housing Committee of the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce.
