Gordon L. Gidlund

Adjunct Professor of Law

Gordon Gidlund has served in the IRS Office of Chief Counsel since 1984. From 1984 to 1992, he was a trial attorney, litigating in the U.S. Tax Court, as well as a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney, representing the IRS in Bankruptcy Court. In 1992, he was appointed an Assistant District Counsel, in which position he supervised attorneys in Tax Court litigation, in advising the IRS Collection Division, and in recommending criminal tax prosecutions to the Department of Justice. With the IRS reorganization in 2000, his title changed to that of Associate Area Counsel, with responsibility for attorneys advising IRS agents examining large corporations. He has previously taught federal tax procedure at the University of Minnesota Law School and at the William Mitchell College of Law. He is a frequent speaker at professional functions, including bar conferences, CLE sessions, and in-house attorney training. Professor Gidlund received his B.A. from the University of Wisconsin and his J.D. from the University of Minnesota.
