Who is Your Academic Advisor?

If you have not yet declared a major, your academic advisor is your preceptor.

All first year students partcipate in the preceptorial program as part of the First Yeat Experiece at USD.  You were placed in a preceptorial course during your first fall semester that fulfilled a core curriculum requirement and was taught by a professor, commonly referred to as a "preceptor," who will also serve as your acdemic advisor until you declare a major.

If you have not yet declared a major, the Dean's Office in the College of Arts & Sciences also provides academic advising.

Occasionally you may not be able to connect with your preceptor or need academic advising assistance beyond what your preceptor can provide.  In this situation, you can contact the Dean's Office in the College of Arts & Sciences to schedule an academic advising appointment.  Call 619-260-4545 or visit Founders 114 to schedule an appointment.

If you have declared your major, your academic advisor is a faculty member in your department.

Once you have declared a major, you will be assigned to a faculty member in the department of your major that will be your academic advisor.  This faculty member will serve as your academic advisor throughout your remaining years at USD.  If you recently declared your major, and are unsure of who your academic advisor is, contact the department of your major to ask.
