Now that acclaimed art historian Derrick Cartwright has come home to USD as director of university galleries and professor of practice, the entire visual arts community in and around San Diego is welcoming him with open arms. “I’ve been telling people for 20 years that he’s the best museum director of his generation,” says longtime friend and collaborator Hugh Davies, director of the San Diego Museum of Contemporary Art.

Voices for Children’s Kathryn Ashworth ’81 (JD) is on a quest to help kids navigate more easily through San Diego’s foster care system. It all started 30 years ago, when she tried to come up with the answer to a seemingly straightforward question: Is foster care good for foster children? Today, the organization she co-founded trains and deploys volunteer court-appointed special advocates as champions of foster children.
