The USD Upward Bound Program provides academic instruction, group and individual tutoring, counseling, and mentoring to 75 eligible students from Kearny High Educational Complex High School who are low-income, first generation college bound high school students. Tutors will provide assistance in English, History, Foreign Language, Math and/or Science subject areas. Tutoring service is needed throughout the academic year (September - May).

Tutoring services will be provided at Kearny High Educational Complex High School from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and also at the Upward Bound office (BA 301) from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Current students enrolled at the University of San Diego who have been awarded Federal Work Study may apply for a Tutor/Mentor position.

Resident Advisor/Tutor/Mentor
Five-Week Summer Residential Program

June 24 - 27, 2013: Orientation/Training
June 28 - Aug 01, 2013: Summer Program

• Must have sophomore standing and above with a strong academic record.
• Enrolled or have completed EDLD 280 Leadership Through Service Course at the University of San Diego with the TRiO Student Support Service program.
• Valid Driver’s license.
• Experience or knowledge working  with low-income, first-generation college bound high school students preferred.
• Prior experience as resident advisor or camp counselor desired.

• Closely monitor and counsel approximately 10-12 students.
• Tutor students in assigned academic courses.
• Assist Head Resident RA with planning, organizing, and conducting social, cultural, and athletic events for daily free time.
• Supervise students in the residence halls, participate fully in evening social, cultural, and counseling activities, as well as field trips and community service projects.
• Conduct meetings with assigned student group and committee, and attend RA and staff meetings.

Once you have completed EDLD 280 course, you will be notifed in May.

Free room & board (housing sunday evening to Friday afternoon - no weekends).
Stipend: $2200-$2400

*cannot have two jobs at USD if offered this position
