The Renaissance Plan

Introducing the Renaissance Plan

The Renaissance Plan is the most ambitious long-term building maintenance plan in USD’s history, and will combine renovation with strategic new construction.

At Alcalá Park, beauty and sustainability go hand-in-hand. In order to reach USD's vision as a contemporary Catholic university where innovative Changemakers confront humanity's urgent challenges, the university must prepare for its future. As the university nears its 75th anniversary in 2024, The Renaissance Plan will lay a foundation for the USD's operational success over the next 75 years.

The Renaissance Plan
Ky Snyder, Vice President of Operations, introduces the Renaissance Plan.

The Campus Master Plan identified three areas of priority: classrooms, faculty office space and flexible study space. The Renaissance Plan will advance these priorities, while addressing deferred maintenance.

This ten-year plan is focused on three areas:

1.) Address Annual Deferred Maintenance - Across the country, deferred maintenance is a growing concern for universities. By 2027, The Renaissance Plan will reduce USD's 2016 deferred maintenance by 50 percent.

2.) Restoration of USD's "Legacy Portfolio" - The Renaissance Plan will restore select "legacy portfolio" buildings (Founders Hall, Camino Hall, Copley Library and Olin Hall).

3.) Strategic New Construction - The Renaissance Plan will include the strategic construction of a new Learning Commons, a new School of Business, a new Engineering space and a Mission & Ministry Center.
