Rainbow Educators Application

Applications are now being accepted for the Rainbow Educator (RE) program for the 2014-2015 academic year. Applications are due by February 14, 2014 and process consists of two parts:

  1. An on-line application consisting of eight questions (please see below)
  2. A 30-minute interview by members of the Rainbow Educator Advisory Team (REAT)

To apply, please select an interview time from the drop down menu below (interviews will take place between February 18-March 4) and respond to the questions below. Applicants are required to attend the spring training which will take place on Friday, March 21, 2014 and Saturday March 22, 2014 (times and location TBA).

Questions
To complete your application, please respond to the each of the following questions.

1. How did you learn about the RE program and what made you interested in becoming an RE? Feel free to share information about your own personal experiences so that we can get to know you better.

2. Discuss your association to the LGBT community and ways in which you stay informed about issues relevant to the community.
3. Describe a social justice issue that is important to you and why?
4. How comfortable are you discussing diversity issues, i.e. sexual orientation, gender, privilege, intersectionality, and race, in an environment in which the audience may not be completely welcoming? Feel free to share information about how you have handled situations involving conflict in the past.
5. How comfortable are you presenting to groups and speaking in public? What past experience do you have presenting to groups? How well do you think on your feet?
6. What do you hope to learn (skills, knowledge) as part of the RE program?
7. Being an RE requires a significant commitment of time and energy. Please share with us other on and off-campus activities that you will be involved with during the 2014-2015 academic year (i.e. work, community service, student organization involvement, etc.).
