Diversity Banquet is a formal ceremony to recognize graduating seniors and graduates students for their contributions, achievements, and experiences at the University of San Diego. There will be awards to students based on various qualifications. These awards were created to honor individuals who have contributed to the development of a campus community that is culturally diverse and creating an educational environment that motivates and supports student learning and personal development. The honorees have dedicated and prepared students to make a positive impact in global society. The Third Annual Diversity Banquet will recognize and honor their contributions and dedication to the USD community. Listed below are the descriptions of the five C.L.A.S.S. Awards that will be presented at Diversity Banquet:
The L. Reuben Mitchell Award for Campus Wide Impact
This award is for a student who has contributed to the University through their leadership and active involvement in campus wide initiatives such as ethnic studies, diversity and inclusion initiatives, developing cultural competence programs, or provided advocacy and awareness of diversity across campus.
The Dr. Evelyn Kirkley Award for Leadership
This award is for a student who led an organization as a member of an executive board and through their leadership capacity led initiatives that contributed to the development of leadership in others.
The Dr. Eugene Labovitz Award for Academics
This award is for a student who received a 3.5 and above grade point average in their field as well as participated in conferences where they presented their academic research.
Social Justice Award
This award is for a student who led community service initiatives or other projects that addressed community issues. This student was instrumental in establishing partnerships and engaging students in social justice work.
The Dr. Judith Liu Award for Service
This award is for a student who has served the community of San Diego by enriching the lives of underserved communities. The student has been committed by volunteering hours to help those most in need.
