Become a Rainbow Educator

Rainbow Educators would like to thank you for your interest in the program and desire to promote awareness, openness, and sensitivity to multiculturalism at USD.

Who are the Rainbow Educators?

RE 2014-15

We are a group undergraduate students, graduate students, staff, faculty, administrators, and alumni/ae who facilitate presentations and workshops on sexual orientation and other diversity issues. Some of the RE's identify themselves as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender; some do not. The most important qualification for an RE is a desire to promote awareness, openness, and sensitivity to multiculturalism at USD.

RE Time Commitment

Rainbow Educators are expected to attend the Fall RE Training in early September (4 hours), monthly RE team meetings on the first Friday of each month from October to March (1.5 hours each), and co-facilitate at least three workshops (4-6 hours total) per semester. New and returning Rainbow Educators must also attend the Spring RE Training in early April (12 hours in two days).

Application Process

Applications are completed electronically (please see below) and applicants are asked to review the Rainbow Educator webpage, confirm their availability for the mandatory training sessions, and provide basic contact information. Applicants are also requested to select a date and time slot for an interview from the available options. The interview is an informal session that gives us an opportunity to learn more about your interest in the Rainbow Educator program, your facilitation experience, and how you can contribute to positively impact USD's campus climate.
