Who is a First-Generation College Student?

The University of San Diego follows the definition for a First-Generation student from the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in which "parents have not earned any post-secondary degree."

The University of San Diego understands the unique experience of First-Generation students, especially at USD. Please review key retention and graduation data collected from the incoming undergraduate class of 2009 cohort.

What does the "First Generation" pin mean?

First-Generation PinThe "First Generation" pin serves as a symbol of pride for taking an important step toward successfully completing a higher education degree. Students, faculty, staff, and administrators who wear the pin identify as First-Gen College Student and embrace it as part of our USD experience.

Incoming students can receive their "First Generation" pin at the First-Generation Student & Family Lunch taking place on Friday, September 1, 2017 during OLÉ! Weekend.
