In addition, this website is intended for any USD member to identify key resources to better support the growing First-Generation student population at USD.

Who is a First-Generation College Student?

The University of San Diego follows the definition for a First-Generation student from the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in which "parents have not earned any post-secondary degree."

What is the USD First-Generation college student experience like?

The University of San Diego understands the unique experience of First-Generation students, especially at USD. Please review key retention and graduation data collected from the incoming undergraduate class of 2009 cohort.

Please join the First-Gen Network to share and receive information and resources that better support the first-generation experience at USD. This Network is open to the entire USD community whether you identify as first-gen college student or want to support this population at USD.

What does the "First Generation" pin mean?

First-Generation PinThe "First Generation" pin serves as a symbol of pride for taking an important step toward successfully completing a higher education degree. Students, faculty, staff, and administrators who wear the pin identify as First-Gen College Student and embrace it as part of our USD experience.

New students can receive their "First Generation" pin at the First-Generation Student & Family Lunch during OLÉ! Weekend taking place in August, 2017.
