Service and Social Justice

Inspired by Gospel values and the Catholic social tradition, the University of San Diego encourages students to serve with compassion, foster peace and work for justice.  In this spirit, University Ministry offers students opportunities to serve and encounter people who suffer and experience injustice to reflect on their vocation as disciples of justice and citizens of the world.

"The Christian lives under the permanent call to turn away from self-sufficiency to confidence in God and from concern for self to a sincere love of neighbor . . . Our relationship to our neighbor is bound up with our relationship to God; our response to the love of God, saving us through Christ, is shown to be effective in his love and service of people. Christian love of neighbor and justice cannot be separated. For love implies an absolute demand for justice, namely a recognition of the dignity and rights of one's neighbor. Justice attains its inner fullness only in love.”  --World Synod of Bishops, Justice in the World
