Do I submit the abstract on behalf of my student?
No, your student will submit the application and abstract electronically. He/she will identify you as the faculty advisor for the project.
We presented this collaborative project at another conference. Can we present at the Undergraduate Research Conference as well?
Yes, of course!
I am the thesis advisor for a student in the Honors Program. Can my student present his/her thesis at the Undergraduate Research Conference?
Yes. This conference will be a good opportunity to prepare for his/her formal Honors thesis project presentation.
I have more than one student working with me on one project. Do they all need to submit an abstact for the same project?
No. Only the lead student author will submit the abstract on behalf of his/her other student collaborators. There will be a place on the submission site where this student can note other student collaborators on the project.
Can I serve as a faculty advisor for more than one submission?
What is the order of authorship for the Undergraduate Research Conference?
Your name will be listed as the faculty sponsor (e.g., "Faculty Sponsor: John Smith, Ph.D."). Your student will be listed as primary author on this poster since he/she will be the main presenter. Any additional student collaborators will be listed after your lead student author.
Is there anything I need to do to prepare my student for the conference?
It is a good idea to give the student a general idea of what an undergraduate conference will entail. Encourage your student to be able to give a 5-minute summary of the project. For students who are presenting projects that use technical concepts or terms, encourage your student(s) to be able to explain these ideas in non-discipline specific terminology. Brainstorm possible questions that the attendees might ask. Also encourage your students to thoroughly read the Undergraduate Research Conference website for additional information.
What is the schedule of events for the conference?
The list of presentations and abstracts will be posted to the website in early April.
I am not able to attend the conference. Do I need to be present on the day of the presentation?
Although you are encouraged to attend the conference, it is not required. Your primary role will be in preparing your student for the presentation.
Is there anything I can do to support the conference?
Please encourage your students and colleagues to attend the conference.
