Get Inspired, Attend an AshokaU Event
What’s your bold BIG idea? Who do you turn to for inspiration? Could your idea change the world? How do you connect with others who share your passion to create innovative solutions to solve societal problems? Would you like to hear thought leaders from every sector who have taken their idea beyond thought to action and are changing the way society works?
Where can you go to be inspired, to see and hear top professionals and international social entrepreneurs share their vision, their experiences and what they’re thinking?
One significant opportunity to learn from and to connect with other Changemakers is TEDx AshokaU, an event that’s coming to downtown San Diego’s 1,300-seat Balboa Theatre on Friday, Feb 22.
The popular nonprofit organization, Technology, Entertainment, Design (TED), is a dedicated hub that provides people with the opportunity to discuss their ideas and spread them live and through social media outlets such as YouTube and more. Speakers are limited to 18 minutes or less. A special video component is also used to spark discussion of the topic.
TEDx AshokaU is closely patterned with TED Talks, yet this one is presented by AshokaU, the organization that designated the University of San Diego as a Changemaker Campus in September 2011.
The Feb. 22 event, which starts promptly at 5 p.m., features seven amazing speakers discussing the themed topic of “Finding Your Place in the Universe.” The lineup consists of Ashoka Fellows Alex Bernadotte, Andreas Heinecke, Felipe Vergara, as well as Eden Full, Anya Kamenetz and San Diego’s Chris Crane. AshokaU Co-Founder and Executive Director Marina Kim will serve as the event’s mistress of ceremonies.
Additionally, PhotoWings, a nonprofit organization that “leverages the power of photography to influence the world,” has partnered with AshokaU to present the audience with a special video presentation during the event.
TEDx AshokaU is taking place during the sold out AshokaU Exchange weekend Feb. 21-23 at USD. All AshokaU Exchange attendees received a ticket to this event with their registration, but the public can purchase tickets online. Tickets are $42 each.
