This course is a critical evaluation of America's historic and contemporary use of the correctional system as the primary response to crime and many social problems. This seminar is more about ideology than structure, of paramount interest are the social, political and economic contexts of prisons and the "tough on crime" movement that have produced the largest prison system in the world. Note: Course will be canceled if there are fewer than six (6) paid students enrolled as of Monday, June 12.
