| Message | As in previous years, USD is partnering with the Black Storytellers of San Diego, Inc. for a campus and community-wide read of The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison. Books can be ordered from the Torero Store. Copies may be borrowed from Human Resources, the Center for Inclusion and Diversity, and the Center for Educational Excellence. Planned book discussions, open to everyone, will take place on campus at the following times and locations. Please RSVP online. Complimentary lunch for the first 4 sessions will be available to those who RSVP. Nobel Prize winner for literature, author Toni Morrison, opens our hearts to the plight of an 11-year old black girl, Pecola Breedlove, who prays for blue eyes and gets them. This vivid, evocative, poignant, even painfully beautiful novel, The Bluest Eye, set in 1941, takes us, the world community, on an imaginative journey with Pecola to get those blue eyes. Along the way, we get a glimpse of humanity and the harvest we reap from the seeds we sow in young minds. Themes include:
