Ryan Jumamil was born in the Philippines. He immigrated with his family to Seattle, Washington when he was 8 years old. He attended Portland State University and completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology, Social Science and Liberal Studies. Shortly after completing his BA degree, Ryan pursued and obtained a Master of Arts degree in Educational leadership and policy. 
Ryan considers himself as a product of TRIO. Throughout high school he participated in Upward Bound, and at Portland State University he was a participant of Student Support Services. He wholeheartedly believes that this program is the reason for how he was able to successfully navigate his educational journey
Prior to coming to USD, Ryan held multiple positions at Portland State. He was a graduate assistant at the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, where he recruited underserved students from diverse backgrounds to Portland State. He also held a position as a graduate assistant for the Diversity and Multicultural Student Services, where he advised and mentored Asian and Pacific Islander students.
Upon completing his MA degree, He became the Multicultural Center program coordinator. He developed programs that fostered student’s overall experience through the lens of multiculturalism. 
Ryan is passionate in providing opportunities for first-generation, low-income and underserved students. In his free time Ryan likes to travel and often goes home to Portland, Oregon.
