Strategic Directions

Drop Shadow

Leverage the Ashoka Partnership

Objective

To engage and support Changemaker thinking and action among USD faculty, staff, students, and alumni, by developing and promoting cross-campus initiatives for social innovation, service, and social entrepreneurship.

Changemaker Core Hub Group

A task force of faculty, students, and administrators was appointed and charged to develop the foundation to support the USD Changemaker Campus. Members will analyze the use of existing resources to identify mechanisms for greater efficiency and effectiveness, and the group will serve as a resource for engaging and inspiring USD students, staff, and faculty in a changemaking campus.

Progress
Fall 2011 - Spring 2012: Shared a portfolio of challenge opportunities for addressing social problems, including the Center for Peace and Commerce "Social Innovation Challenge" and the "USD One Challenge." Nearly 400 constituents voted to choose this year's theme, "Environment, Wasteful Production and Consumption," which was announced on April 24, Earth Day.
Spring 2012: Designed and planned the Ashoka U Exchange conference, to be held at USD in February of 2013.
Spring 2012: Identified space on third floor of the Student Life Pavilion to create a physical presence for the Changemaker Hub. Gensler, a design and architecture firm headquartered in San Francisco, has provided pro-bono advice on the relationship between space and innovation.
Summer 2012: Developed and launched an Ashoka Changemaker Hub website reflecting the "hub" spirit, informing the campus community of upcoming changemaker events, and promoting activities and opportunities for involvement.
Fall 2012: Supported a student-organized one-week Changemaker FEST (November 5-9) featuring changemaking, leadership, and social entrepreneurship activities and workshops.
Fall 2012: Launched the Student Changemaker Scholarship with support from the Bill Hannon Foundation and awarded scholarships ranging from $3,105 - $4,000 to 23 students.
