Majoring in international business (with a minor in accounting), it’s no surprise that Kelly Ishen Wu’s passion for travel has led her across the globe a number of times in the name of education. Originally from Taiwan, she first to a new home in Sacramento, came to college in San Diego, then studied abroad in Hong Kong.

The Hong Kong trip was with Associate Professor of Economics Alan Gin. Sometimes for six hours a day, Wu and her fellow students digested international economics and doing so in an international setting might the content all the more relevant.

“Being in the heart of such a big economic hub, I put what I learned into a real life context and learned to utilize it,” says Wu. “The program was really well planned, and it was great to get a perspective of what it would be like to work in Hong Kong.”

Keeping her eye on her future, Wu opted to graduate from USD a semester early in order to take advantage of an internship in Ireland. And she has no plans to stop traveling soon: “The company I work for is planning on expanding to Asia,” she says, “and that’s where I come into the picture.”

“But I miss school already,” she says. “USD offered me so many opportunities that I will always carry with me.”
