Letter from the Director
As the Director of the Marital and Family Therapy program at the University of San Diego, I want to welcome you to our website. USD has an exceptional masters program for students interested in a career in marriage and family therapy. We feature a multidisciplinary faculty who have diverse clinical and scholarly interests and are committed to providing a personalized, rigorous education to all students.
At USD, we believe a graduate education should be a life-changing experience. It is a time of growth and a time of learning, both in and beyond the classroom. Each year, our practicum students provide approximately 15,000 hours of clinical services, applying the knowledge and skills learned in the classroom to various clinical settings, helping improve the lives of families throughout San Diego County. We are proud of our approved practicum sites and value the exceptional training they provide for our students.
In the 2011-2012 academic year, we are looking forward to many developments and activities, including:
• study abroad courses to Ireland (Family Development) in the spring and Costa Rica (Human Diversity in Family Therapy) in the summer;
• a new healthcare collaboration with the Division of Global Public Health at UCSD and UABC in Tijuana;
• the launching of a revised curriculum to meet new requirements from the Board of Behavioral Sciences (CA);
• the beginning of a new Department with our colleagues from School Counseling and Clinical Mental Health Counseling. A Founding Department Chair will be hired soon.
Again, thank you for stopping by the USD MFT program web page. While you are here, you may use the links provided to learn more about our program. I would also like to invite you to personally visit our campus to meet our students, our faculty, and our staff.
