Master of Education
Thirty-unit programs are designed for those interested in gaining expertise in current educational reform and best practices in learning and teaching. Standards infused into the programs include the California Standards for the Teaching Profession, the use of computer-based technology to facilitate the learning and teaching process, and values, ethics, and character. Many programs are available: Curriculum and Instruction, Literacy, Special Education, TESOL, and Mathematics, Science, and Technology Education. Students seeking to work in special education may obtain the master's degree and the preliminary educational specialist credential together in a 30-unit program. The 6-units of student teaching do not count towards the MEd in Special Education. USD has Internship contract agreements with several school districts. Availability is dependent upon district budgetary restraints. programs in special education are available. An undergraduate student who begins special education credential courses at the undergraduate level increases their chances for a district/university intern position during their graduate credential and master degree program.
Each of the programs consists of required courses and electives to be culminated in the presentation of a portfolio, or, if requested by the student, a master's thesis.

Master of Arts - Teaching
This degree program offers candidates the opportunity to develop both pedagogical and content knowledge. Candidates take half of their coursework within SOLES and the other half through graduate programs within the College of Arts and Sciences.
MASTER'S INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Beginning in Fall 2008, all students pursuing a master's or doctoral degree within SOLES will be required to participate in an international experience as a part of their graduate study. All graduate degree candidates within the Department of Learning and Teaching are required to participate in an international experience prior to graduation.
