Funding Resources - for tuition, research, and travel
- Scholarships – SOLES administered funding.
- GSA Grant (up to $200); Acceptable reimbursable expenses related to professional development activities include registration fees, travel or lodging.
- Student Research Awards – SOLES Dean’s Office:
- Meritorious Research Award (up to $1,000) -Funding is for travel to national and international meetings. These funds are to be used only for travel to meetings for which the student is presenting his/her research in a paper session. Students must be the first, second or sole author of the paper (poster sessions and round table presentations are not eligible for travel awards).
- Doctoral Student Extraordinary Expense Award (up to $500) - Funding is for non-routine expenses directly related to collecting/analyzing data for the dissertation.

- Program Planning Form - Doctoral Program - Students should begin filling this out at the outset of their program an update it each semester in consultation with their advisors. Advisors should put updated versions into the student's file.

- For gradaute students, common uses include:
- Late adds: after obtaining instructor signature, Heather Gibb can assist in obtaining Dean's approval. Students are responsible to take to One Stop for registration.
- Summer / Intersession: after online registration is over, but is not past registration deadline. Take directly to One Stop. Signatures not required for standard courses. If instructor or department approval are required for a given course, obtain that signature. Heather Gibb is available to assist in signature collection when necessary.
- Please file directly with Registrar. Please notify by copy or email, the Department of Leadership Studies, Room 275 or leadershipstudies@sandiego.edu.

- File at any time necessary in your program.
- Fill out this form in consultation with the faculty member with whom they are doing
the Independent Study, and secure his/her signature. - Then, turn the form into the Leadership Studies office (275), where the form will
be routed for the approval of the Program Director/Department Chair and the
Associate Dean. - After all signatures have been obtained, the student will be notified when they
can register online for the Independent Study.
Note: If an Independent Study form is submitted after the deadline for adding
courses online the student will need to walk-in register at the One Stop Services
office with the Application for Independent Study or Research form and the
ADD/DROP Form AFTER securing all of the required signatures.
- Visit the Leadership Studies Internship Website to review requirements.
- Fill out this form during/after consultation with Peggy Hetherington, Director of Field
Experiences. - Secure signatures of University Supervisor and the Director of Field Experiences.
- To register for an Internship or Practicum students can register online after the
instructor completes the override or walk-in register at the One Stop Services
office with the Leadership Studies Program Internship Application form
AFTER securing all of the required signatures.
- Form needs to be initiated PRIOR to the experience, and completed AFTER the experience.
- Review policy and instructions on form. Heather Gibb can assist in getting signatures after you get your advisor's signature. The department will retain a copy of the form and send original to the Graduate Records Office. It is the students responsibility to obtain all necessary supporting paperwork (transcripts, etc) and to verify posting your USD record prior to graduation.

This form can only be used to transfer between some Leadership Studies MA programs. Students from other programs wanting to transfer to the Department of Leadership Studies must fil out a full application and follow annual deadlines.
- Be sure your advisor supports your request prior to submitting this form to MRH 275. It will be routed to to Chair and Dean, then to Graduate Records upond completion. For copies of signed petition, please contact Heather.
- Withdrawals do not need approval from the department. However, please notify us (leadershipstudies@sandiego.edu) or your advisor prior to filing this form.
- Leaves: Obtain your advisor's signature.

- Filed by faculty. Available for student informational purpose.
- Please follow instructions on obtaining your records as noted on the Graduate Records website via the link above.
- However, after your advisor approves it, you can submit it to the Leadership Studies Executive Assistant who will route to Chair and Dean for signatures. She will submit your form to Graduate Records upon completion. For copies of signed petition, please coordinate with the Executive Assistant.
