Welcome Counseling Program Students
Welcome to USD's Counseling Program. Our program takes pride in providing quality preparation for graduate students entering the field of counseling. We seek to provide a supportive learning environment that challenges students to become exemplary counselors who can work in a variety of professional and community settings both domestically and internationally. The faculty knows that the decision to attend graduate school is a major step in each of our students' lives, and we are pleased that you have selected our program for your graduate studies.
The Counseling Program faculty and staff wish each of you success as you complete your coursework and progress through the clinical instruction portions of the program. We hope our program contributes significantly to your deepening awareness of what it means to be a helper and your understanding of counseling's potential as well as its limitations as a form of helping. We look forward to our individual and class interactions with you, and we encourage you to make time to meet with us during the coming year.
Counseling is a mix of art and science and our faculty works hard to help students become grounded in both ways of seeing the world. In some classes you will be pushed to practice your art. In others you will be invited to embrace the scientific worldview. We hope you enjoy the challenges and opportunities presented in your classes as well as the interactions with faculty, classmates, and mentors in the field.
