Renewing Credentials

REQUIREMENTS FOR PROFESSIONAL CLEAR/LEVEL II TEACHING CREDENTIALS

COURSES TAKEN THROUGH USD CONTINUING EDUCATION (including on-line courses) ARE NOT TRANSFERABLE TO A CREDENTIAL OR MASTER'S DEGREE PROGRAM AT USD.

The Preliminary Multiple or Single Subject or Education Specialist Level I credential is good for 5 years. Within those 5 years requirements for the professional clear or level II credential must be completed.

If you do not complete these requirements within the five year period your preliminary credential will expire and you will not be eligible to teach in the public schools.

2042 MULTIPLE/SINGLE SUBJECT (BTSA/INDUCTION):
The preliminary 2042 Multiple and Single Subject credentials require completion of a 2 year induction program at an employing school district. The induction program will include advanced health, mainstreaming, English language learner and computer competencies. You are required to complete all induction requirements as assigned by your employing school district including advanced versions of coursework you have already completed. Some units in the induction program may apply toward a Master's Degree, contact the district and university for information.

EDUCATION SPECIALIST LEVEL II
The Professional Clear Level II Education Specialist credential requires completion of a Level II program including coursework at a university with an approved Level II program and an induction program at an employing school district. USD has CTC approved Level II programs in mild/moderate, moderate/severe, deaf and hard of hearing and early childhood. THESE PROGRAMS ARE OFFERED ON THE SAN DIEGO CAMPUS and are not available on-line. The deaf and hard of hearing program is offered through the John Tracy Clinic in Los Angeles.

What if you do not complete these requirements within the five year period? Your preliminary credential, which is NOT renewable, will expire and you will not be eligible to teach in the public schools. You may obtain the Professional CLEAR Credential when you do complete requirements, however you may be subject to any new requirements added by the CTC. Contact the Credential Analyst for information on current requirements.

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE PROFESSIONAL LEVEL II ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES CREDENTIAL
The preliminary credential, a level II program of coursework and 2 years of administrative experience is required for the professional credential.  Information on the level II ELDA program is available on the ELDA web site.

RENEWING THE CLEAR, PROFESSIONAL CLEAR OR LEVEL II CREDENTIAL
Clear, professional clear and level II credentials are valid for 5 years.  To renew the credential file on-line on the CTC website and pay the required fee.
