Angel Chavarin
Angel completed his master’s degree in school counseling in May 2011. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of La Verne, where he majored in Liberal Studies with a concentration in Human Development. Prior to attending USD, Angel worked for the Tariq Khamisa Foundation, a non-profit organization working to improve violence prevention efforts in San Diego County. While in his first year at USD, he was a member of the Bi-national Action Research Collaborative (BARC), which brings together educators from Mexico and the U.S. to explore the application of action research to problems of practice in education on both sides of the border. In 2010, Angel attended the 8th annual ALAS conference, at Columbia University in New York, to discuss the importance of education across the Americas and assisted in presenting the research BARC had conducted. Also in 2010, he assisted with organizing the first CARN Study Day in North America, held as a part of SOLES’ 7th Annual Action Research Conference. Angel was a 2010-2011 Action Research Fellow in SOLES and worked with Dr. Lonnie Rowell on further developing action research resources for educators in the region. Angel is now a school counselor at Springall Academy in San Diego. Springall accepts students from all over the greater San Diego County area, and serves students with special needs including those diagnosed with SLD, OHI, ED, and AUT, ranging in ages from age 5-21, and in grades K-12+. |
