Preliminary Education Specialist Credential Program

Learn. Teach. Change lives.

The SOLES Preliminary Education Specialist Credential program prepares you with skills to teach and impact the lives of students with mild to moderate disabilities from kindergarten through 22 years of age.

Our hands-on approach to learning is evident through your extended practicum, where you apply your curriculum knowledge inside the classroom. Your credential comes with experiences helping real students in real situations.

The program is nationally recognized by the Council for Exceptional Children, and uses the council's performance-based electronic portfolio competency model for evaluation and credential recommendation criteria.

Upon graduation, credential students are recommended to the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing for the Preliminary Education Specialist Credential with an authorization in mild to moderate disabilities.

Consider an MEd in Special Education

Most candidates earn their Preliminary Education Specialist Credential concurrently with an MEd in Special Education through our Master's Credential Cohort: Special Education. This program is offered in a cohort-based two-year format and offers discounted tuition.
