The Jacobs Institute for Innovation in Education

Empowering Educational Innovators

The seeds of innovation are planted at a young age and technological advances provide learners of all ages the opportunity to be creators, builders, designers, producers, and makers. Our goal is to empower all students, teachers and education leaders to engage as innovators -- social problems solvers who have developed an innovator mindset and skillset. Through our partnerships, research and development, we believe we can educate all learners to invent the future of learning, as well as to innovate in their unique areas of domain expertise.

Founded in 2018, the Jacobs Institute for Innovation in Education is a non-profit, university-based research and development center at the School of Leadership and Education Sciences at the University of San Diego.

In Recognition of Dr. Irwin and Mrs. Joan Jacobs

Dr. and Mrs. Jacobs are the founding donors to the Institute and have generously supported our work over many with multiple gifts. Their commitment to the institute stems from their passion for education and their belief that technology can create better, more innovative, and more equitable learning opportunities for students.  Their generosity has funded graduate students and post-docs in the institute; technology integration in North Carolina, Texas, and New Bedford - Dr. Jacobs’s hometown; and, most recently, the development of an app to support social good innovation with teens and young adults.  We are exceedingly grateful for their dedication and support.
