Brazil LEAD 579I
Global Perspectives in Higher Education
The purpose of this course is to provide students with an opportunity to explore, discuss, reflect, and analyze issues of access and equity from a global perspective. The focus of this course is on the intersection of race, gender, and socioeconomic status and the confluence of historical legacies and persisting inequitable outcomes. The overarching question of this course is: "What opportunities are available in Brazil for a citizen to have upward social mobility?" Particular attention will be paid to interventions like affirmative action and other initiatives from the government, non-government organizations, and private and public universities seeking to address educational access and economic inequities.
